|
|
For the 2008-09 winter weather season, all MU-AMS weather forum members are eligible to participate in an NFC-style competition. This is a season-long event, beginning with the first competition (date of first 1.0" or more of snowfall) and continuing through individual storms (forecasting snowfall for events in inches).
*** For the latest and active competitions, please visit the Winter 2008-09 Competitions Forum ***
...OFFICIAL RULES...
- Valid entries for the competitions are dates (for the first competition) and snowfall total in inches (not liquid equivalent).
- Snowfall entries should be specific to the tenth of an inch, no more, no less (i.e., 0.1" ... 3.5" ... etc.).
- Deadline for entry into the initial competition is Noon EST, Friday, November 21, 2008.
- Deadline for storm-specific competitions are at least 24 hours before the expected beginning of precipitation from the event (at the discretion of the forum moderator), unless otherwise noted.
- You must be a paid member of the MU-AMS to participate.
- Standings will be kept throughout the course of the competition. The user who accrues the most points by the end of the competition will win a prize, to be determined at a later date. To ensure the chance of a good finish, forecast for every event!
- Verification for the competitions will come via measurements from Dr. Sikora's backyard (in Millersville).

|
|
Hey everyone... just thought I'd make a few rule clarifications/remarks based on a few comments I've received...
First off... if you are having problems registering to the forum please let me know by shooting me an e-mail. We have had issues with people not receiving confirmation e-mails when registering, therefore I have shut them off and opted for a system where I manually activate your account after registration. I should be able to catch all of the Millersville user names among our many bots, but if you find your account unactivated several hours later after registering, please let me know.
Also, given that several people will not have access to a reliable internet connection over winter break and during the AMS trip to the national meeting in Phoenix in January, we will not be holding contests during these times. For those who do have internet access over breaks, I encourage you to continue using the forum to discuss the latest in winter weather.
That's all... remember to get your date of first snowfall of 1" or more posted by Noon on Friday! _________________ - Bill |
